An Introduction - Getting my Degree in Curiosity
Ed Toddy (02/20/20)
Hello there,
My name is Ed Toddy, and I am a journalism student as the University of Central Arkansas in Conway. I am currently a sophomore working on my four-year communications degree in journalism, and I have prospects to go to law school after I graduate.
It is important to me that I understand the laws and systems that govern over our nation in order to create change. I’m getting a four-year degree in Journalism because getting a degree in journalism is getting a degree curiosity. Practiced curiosity is a powerful skill for encouraging change.
While journalism is meant to exist in a detached observant state, I want to take it further. We live in an age of misinformation. Our world has been manipulated by politicians through fake news, conspiracy and propaganda. Because of this - I want to become a politician after I spend my early-life as a reporter. Our country cannot stand for the integration of fact and fiction. I want to assist in creating positive change with the truth, with fact, and with certainty. So far, I've made it to sophomore year.
I live in Conway with my cat Clementine in an apartment not far from UCA. It’s true that Conway is not as curious as a bigger city such as Portland or San Francisco, but for now it’s home.
Luckily, Conway is just big enough to occasionally excite me, but living here does have its pros and cons.
Con: Construction on Donaghey Ave has been terrorizing usually short commutes for several weeks now and no one is sure of when traffic will return to normal. Pro: At the least in as little as three years Donaghey will receive several new vertigo-inducing roundabouts.
Conway is a good starter town, but I want to experience the world. I daydream about climbing the tallest mountains and screaming victory over the clouds. I ponder plans to visit every country and laugh with the people of earth, but on a student budget I can’t make it far.
The only exiting place I can afford to visit is my eclectically decorated apartment, where from the second floor I scream victory over the parking lot. Someday I hope to travel much farther than Conway, but for now I’m here and it isn’t so bad.
I am interested in city and state governments. As a student’s journalist I read the news daily and value credibility above all else. This website will be a location to archive my work at the Echo (UCA’s student newspaper) and act as a place to post my own investigative stories and various blog posts. My interests are broad, but I will try to remain consistent.
